Carter's Corner: Last Corner for the Season

As we close this great high school football season for the Cougars, Mike Carter would like to reflect on the players who impacted this season by handing out some awards. And without further review, Here they are!

2009 football programHere it is folks. The much anticipated end of the year awards from Carter's Corner.


Play of the Year: Mitchell Martin's blocked punt return vs CPA

Rookie of the Year: Chad Cartwright

Best hit: Ben Herchenham's hit on CPA QB Luke Roman. Absolutely viscous

Best run: AJ Smith's 48 yard run vs Lipscomb.  

Best catch: Cody Gregg's 31 yard leaping grab vs York

Best play that never happened: Keenan Reynolds scrambled to find Cody Gregg for a 57 yard TD catch vs York. Penalty brought it back. Woluld have been play of the year had it counted.

Best game to watch: GP vs York

Best call: Josh Lumpkin's fake punt return vs McGavock

Best Call by opponent: Onside kick by York to start second half. Completely changed the game

Best play by opponent: Marlin Simms of McGavock one hand grab for 19 yard TD catch.

Best team played all year: Whites Creek

Best student section by opponent: Ravenwood

Best gate by opponent: Ravenwood

Best Performance for GP: Lipscomb

Best Stadium to visit: Greenbrier

Best food provided by opposing teams in pressbox: CPA

Best Player we saw all year: Tyler Asbury (#41) York

Single Most Important Defensive Play of the Year: Mitchell Martin's pick vs White House with no time left. Sealed the game.

Single Most Important Offensive Play of the Year: Seth Mac's 9 yard run vs Greenbrier. Only score and won the district in the rain.

Single most important special teams playt: JT Lynn's kickoff return vs Lipscomb. Might have saved the season.

Offensive MVP: Stephon Dawson

Defensive MVP: Parker Burton
